johnny christ
Jonathan Lewis Seward, (born November 18, 1984), better known by his stage name Johnny Christ, is the bassist of the band Avenged Sevenfold. Johnny Christ was the fourth bassist to join Avenged Sevenfold in 2002, replacing former members Matt Wendt, Dameon Ash, and Justin Sane. He grew up in Huntington Beach, California.Johnny Christ attended Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California. He proceeded through high school and eventually formally met M. Shadows, Zacky Vengeance, Synyster Gates, and The Rev (the latter two he already knew from school). Following the departure of Dameon Ash in 2002, he was invited to fill the position as Avenged Sevenfold's bassist. He is friends with Zacky Vengeance's younger brother Matt Baker formerly from the band The Dear & Departed. In May 2009 he participated in the Gumball 3000 Rally, driving coast to coast with the Fuel Girls.Johnny initially took a few weeks off from high school during his senior year to fill in for Avenged Sevenfold's previous bassist, Dameon Ash, during one of their tours. These few weeks would become permanent as Johnny dropped out of high school to become the band's current bassist. His two biggest influences are Cliff Burton (late bassist for Metallica) and Duff McKagan (the bassist from Velvet Revolver and formerly Guns N Roses). His playing style varies by song.Johnny first recorded on their second album Waking the Fallen. He used to write only Johnny on his autographs until Zacky came up with the name 'Johnny Christ', and in All Excess he said, "That sounds... really ballsy. Everyone's gonna hate that, so... I should definitely go with that." He resides in Huntington Beach, Orange County.
zacky vengeance
Zachary James Baker, (born December 11, 1981) better known by his stage name Zacky Vengeance, is the rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist for the American metal/rock band Avenged Sevenfold.Baker taught himself how to play the guitar when he was thirteen. He attended Huntington Beach High School, and formed Avenged Sevenfold there with M. Shadows and The Rev. Before Avenged Sevenfold, he was in a punk band called MPA*, which stands for Mad Porn Action. He implied that they were not successful. Baker came up with his stage name "Zacky Vengeance" because he wanted to get back at all the people from his youth who doubted his potential. He also came up with Johnny's stage name "Johnny Christ," saying it suited him. Vengeance was also responsible for the creation of the initialism "A7X".
Despite being left-handed, Vengeance recalls the first guitar he learned to play on was actually a right-handed his parents had bought him for his thirteenth birthday. He learned by playing upside-down, watching his favorite bands and other people he knew who played, and practiced as much as he could. He would also read each edition of Guitar World cover to cover, learning the tabs of the songs published there and watching the professionals perform them until he could play just as well.
In high school he played baseball. He claims that if not for his music career, he would have played in college and might have gone pro. He was scouted by the New York Yankees. He played first base, third base, and catcher for his high school baseball team. His favorite Major League Baseball team is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He has an Angels tattoo behind his left ear.
m. shadow
Shadows was born Matthew Charles Sanders on July 31, 1981, in Huntington Beach, California. He attended Huntington Beach High School, where after a brief stint in the band Successful Failure, he met James Sullivan and began to form the earliest incarnations of Avenged Sevenfold. His sister is former Detroit Shock player, Amy Sanders.Shadows was born Matthew Charles Sanders on July 31, 1981, in Huntington Beach, California. He attended Huntington Beach High School, where after a brief stint in the band Successful Failure, he met James Sullivan and began to form the earliest incarnations of Avenged Sevenfold. His sister is former Detroit Shock player, Amy Sanders.Shadows has made guest appearances on numerous albums by various artists. He also produced The Confession's 2007 album, Requiem, which, according to an interview, was one of the first steps which led to Avenged Sevenfold self-producing their 2007 self-titled album.
In October 2002, the band announced that Shadows was experiencing problems in his vocal cords, due to their active touring, and that his doctor advised him to take a short break from touring to prevent further damage. After the release of City of Evil a false rumor started circulating, saying that the reason that he dropped screaming vocals was either due to a ripped vocal cord or a blown blood vessel in the back of his throat. This, however, is not true. He still displays some screaming and growling in songs recorded after Waking the Fallen. Examples include the opening to Critical Acclaim from their self-titled album and God Hates Us from Nightmare. In an interview on All Excess, manager Larry Jacobson states that Shadows had decided two years before the making of City of Evil that it would be an all-singing album. He had made it clear to their producer, Andrew Murdock, that the album they were working on at the time, Waking the Fallen would be half singing and half screaming, and that the next would be all singing. Moreover, Jimmy "the Rev" Sullivan confirmed that M. Shadows grew tired of doing screamed vocals. In the past Shadows would sing on all parts of the songs during live performances, supporting the theory that he was no longer able to perform unclean vocals. Shadows has since resumed screaming again during live performances in the songs that initially feature screamed vocals. In the band's fifth album Nightmare, Shadows has also re-incorporated some screaming vocals, notably on the song "God Hates Us".
synyster gates
Synyster Gates, born Brian Elwin Haner, Jr., also known as Syn, is an American musician. He is currently the lead guitarist for Heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold.
Brian attended and graduated from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood as part of the GIT program, studying jazz guitar. After six months of being there, he got a phone call from Jimmy (and the rest of the current line up of Avenged Sevenfold) asking him if he wanted to come and be their lead guitarist. Brian joined up with them rather than continuing his education and becoming a studio musician.
Gates joined Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) when he was 18, at the end of 1999, right before the recording of the band's first album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. He was featured on their EP, "Warmness on the Soul," and on the reissue of their first album. He also plays piano for the band on songs such as "The Beast and the Harlot" and "Sidewinder”.
Gates cites Django Reinhardt, Adam Aparicio, Dimebag Darrell, Slash, John Petrucci and Francis Canavan as his favorite guitarists and major influences. He has won numerous awards, including the "Young Shredder" award of the year in the Metal Hammer awards in 2006 and the "Guitarist of the Year" Award for Total Guitar Magazine in 2006.

the rev
The Rev (born James “Jimmy” Owen Sullivan on February 9 1981- December 28 2009), short for The Reverend Tholomew Plague was the drummer of Avenged Sevenfold, a heavy metal band.
At the age of 3 The Rev got his own drum set. The Rev attended a Catholic school with A7X lead singer M. Shadows, but was expelled in the 3rd grade. The Rev spent a lot of time as a teen living in a laundromat and was in and out of homes. His first record was released at the age of 18. He maintains a presence in the side project Pinkly Smooth with fellow Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates, as well as parts of surf-punk band Ballistico. He has also played piano for the band on “Warmness On The Soul”.
He was also formerly the drummer for third-wave ska band Suburban Legends, along with former Avenged Sevenfold bassist Justin Meacham (not associated with Anti-Flag).
On the new A7X DVD while discussing how each member got their stage names, it was stated that Sullivan attained his name via a shortened version of The Reverend Tholomew Plague. The decision was seemingly random, as there were no specific reasons stated as to the inspiration for the name. He had a tendency to wear eccentric outfits such as outrageously colored kimonos.
Some of his favorite bands are Rancid, The Transplants and Slayer. Sullivan cites his influences as being Vinnie Paul of Pantera, Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph of Slayer, and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater.
Sullivan uses and is sponsored by DW Drums, although he appears in advertisements for DW’s budget company, PDP. He is also sponsored by Sabian cymbals, Pro-Mark sticks and Evans drum heads.
Recognized for vocals in side project Pinkly Smooth, Sullivan is utilized as a back-up vocalist in Avenged Sevenfold, primarily for live screams in songs such as Eternal Rest. The upcoming single from the band’s upcoming eponymous album, Critical Acclaim features Sullivan at lead vocals during the chorus of the song, both singing and screaming. He also use his vocals in another songs from the Avenged Sevenfold eponymous, mainly screaming.
The Rev is also featured in the song “A Little Piece of Heaven” (which was written by him) singing, laughing and screaming a little bit.
The Rev was found dead at his home in Huntington Beach, California Monday December 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Orange County Coroners office are investigating Jimmy Sullivan’s passing.
